The 2018 Honda CR-V Maintains Control in its Class

Most people just see the letters at the end of a vehicle name and assume there isn't much meaning behind them, but those people are mistaken. In the case of the Honda CR-V, the letters stand for Compact Recreational Vehicle, which is does a tremendous job of living up to. Offering everything you will need to get your family and gear to where it needs to be without making a bulky vehicle to house it all.

The Honda CR-V was one of the first vehicles to be classified as a compact SUV, replacing the classic wagons and massive SUV frames. This wave of crossovers offered those looking for more room, as well as those in cities that wanted more variety in their vehicles, an option that is not excessively oversized and features styling that a driver would be proud to show off. As one of the top selling vehicles from Honda, it is evident that it continues to meet driver expectation.

Trim Options

Offering a variety of options is important for manufacturers; it has been shown that the vehicles that let a customer personalize their options generally perform better than those with preset options and features. The 2018 Honda CR-V offers four difference trims to choose between: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. Even at the base, it comes rather well-equipped and will provide customers with everything they will need to have a comfortable and enjoyable ride.

The LX comes standard as a FWD vehicle with an option to upgrade to the Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control the Honda offers. The redesigned CR-V features a distinct look, but it isn't particularly striking or memorable in the segment.

The 2018 Honda CR-V EX and EX-L also offer AWD as well as an EX-L Navi w/ navigation package, don't offer different styling, but include many features that the base model leaves out or just has an options. When you look at the 2018 Honda CR-V Touring option, you will see that it adds modern features to the exterior, such as full LED headlights, which are a nice touch, but don't make up much for the overall look of the vehicle.

Improved Performance and Capabilities

Honda has already seen success with introducing turbocharged engines into their lineup (see 2018 Honda Civic redesign as an example), and have decided that the 2018 Honda CR-V is deserving of one too. Without the turbo, every trim of the 2018 Honda CR-V comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 184 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, more than enough for this compact SUV to carry all your gear while providing a fun experience. If you opt for the turbocharged engine, it comes in the form of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pushes horsepower to 190 horsepower and provides 179 pound-feet of torque, giving a snappier response to acceleration. The turbo is perfect for someone who wants to cling to a youthful feeling from their vehicle, but has to make sure they can fit their kids and their gear into the back.

As mentioned several times already, the 2018 Honda CR-V offers an impressive All-Wheel Drive system for customers to take advantage of. It does more than just spin all the wheels, because Honda has made it their own Real Time All-Wheel Drive System with Intelligent Control, it can maximize performance through sensing conditions. Variable torque distribution monitors everything from how the wheels are spinning to what direction they are pointing in order to designate where the power should be distributed to. While this system is clearly impressive and desirable, it is kind of overkill for the majority of people. Unless you are constantly in inclement weather, on dirt paths or gravel roads, the Front-Wheel Drive option would do just as well, but the Real-Time AWD is there for you if you feel your life demands it.

Honda Safety

Honda has become known for including some of the most innovative and impressive safety features in their vehicles. It has a long list of features that are included in it, such as a rearview camera, a strong body structure, airbags, and driver assist technology.

The last in that list is where a lot of the impressive features come in; Honda Sensing is the driver assist technology included in most Honda models, it is a suite of technology that is standard on the 2018 Honda CR-V Ex, EX-L, and Touring models. Included features in Honda Sensing are Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Auto High-Beam Headlights, Blind-Spot Monitoring System with Cross Traffic Monitor, Collision Mitigation Braking System, and Road Departure Mitigation System. Even the best drivers find themselves distracted every now and then, which is why these systems work together to put an extra set of eyes on the road for you.

How we See the Honda CR-V

As you could imagine, we are mostly impressed by the 2018 Honda CR-V. It would appear that styling isn't that important (or we are in the minority opinion here) because the 2018 Honda CR-V continues to be one of the top models for Honda, even pulling loyal customers from brands like Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda.
